Superman (Noir) is an alternate version of Superman from the DC Multiverse, specifically Earth-23. He exists in a world vastly different from the mainstream DC Universe, reflecting a pulp/noir aesthetic.
Kal-El, son of Jor-El, still escaped Krypton's destruction, but his rocket landed in Harlem, New York, during the 1930s. He was raised by a working-class African American couple, who instilled in him strong moral values rooted in social justice and equality.
Adopting the name Calvin Ellis, he became a champion of the oppressed and downtrodden, fighting against corruption and inequality in his city. His powers are similar to the mainstream Superman: flight, super strength, invulnerability, and heat vision.
Ellis also pursued a career in politics, becoming the President of the United States. This allows him to enact change on a larger scale, battling injustice both as a superhero and as a political leader.
Unlike the traditional Superman, Calvin Ellis’s story highlights the intersectionality of race, class, and power, offering a unique perspective on the Superman mythos, championing social change from the top and the streets.
