Superman is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, he first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938).
Born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, he was sent to Earth by his parents just before Krypton's destruction. Landing in rural America, he was found and raised by farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent, who named him Clark and instilled in him strong moral values.
Discovering he possessed superhuman abilities, including flight, super strength, and invulnerability, Clark Kent chose to use these powers to help others. He adopted the secret identity of Superman, becoming a symbol of hope, truth, and justice.
