Superman, in the 1948 film serial produced by Columbia Pictures, is an adaptation of the DC Comics superhero of the same name. He is portrayed by Kirk Alyn.
Born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, he was sent to Earth by his father, Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. He landed near Smallville, Kansas, and was found by kindly farmers, Eben and Sarah Kent, who named him Clark and raised him as their own son.
Clark Kent develops extraordinary powers, including super-strength, flight, and invulnerability. Upon reaching adulthood, he moves to Metropolis and assumes the guise of a mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet. He uses his powers in secret to fight crime and injustice as Superman.
The serial follows Superman as he battles the evil scientist known as the Spider Lady, preventing her from acquiring advanced technology and threatening the city. He protects Metropolis while maintaining his secret identity, saving Lois Lane and others from the Spider Lady's schemes.
