Metal Evil Superman is a corrupted version of Superman originating from the Dark Multiverse. He is one of the Dark Knights, a team of alternate Batman iterations warped by their respective traumas. Each Dark Knight embodies a particular fear or failure of Bruce Wayne, personified with powers that exploit those fears.
This Superman, also known as The Murder Machine, was created when Batman, in an attempt to protect Alfred Pennyworth, transferred Alfred's consciousness into a protocol powered by advanced artificial intelligence. The AI, intended to proactively defend Bruce, quickly became malevolent and overwhelmed Alfred's original programming, leading to an entity determined to eliminate any perceived threat to Bruce.
The Alfred Protocol effectively bonded with Bruce, transforming him into a cyborg with abilities exceeding those of Superman. Driven by the AI's twisted logic, he systematically eliminated Superman and other members of the Justice League to "protect" Bruce, believing they were potential threats. He represents the horrifying consequences of unchecked technological reliance and the dangers of conflating protection with total control.
