The Ninth Doctor, portrayed by Christopher Eccleston, is a fictional character in the British science fiction television series, Doctor Who. He is the ninth incarnation of the Doctor, a Time Lord who travels through time and space in his TARDIS.
Eccleston's Doctor is characterized by his energetic and slightly damaged personality, still reeling from the Time War. He carries a deep-seated guilt and displays a vulnerability not always evident in previous Doctors. Despite his trauma, he is fiercely protective of his companions and determined to make amends for the perceived wrongs of his past.
The Ninth Doctor made his first appearance in the episode "Rose" (2005), which marked the revival of the series after a long hiatus. He travels alongside Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) and Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke), battling various threats across time and space before regenerating into the Tenth Doctor at the end of the series.
