Biography:
The Second Doctor, portrayed by Patrick Troughton, succeeded William Hartnell's First Doctor in the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who. He regenerated in 1966, marking a pivotal moment in the show's history and establishing the concept of regeneration as a means of continuing the narrative.
Visually, the Second Doctor contrasted sharply with his predecessor. He appeared younger, sporting a disheveled mop of dark hair and often wearing a bow tie and baggy trousers. His persona was characterized by a whimsical, clownish exterior that often masked a brilliant and strategically-minded intellect. He frequently employed feigned incompetence to disarm his enemies.
The Second Doctor's era saw the introduction of iconic monsters such as the Ice Warriors and Cybermen. He traveled with companions including Polly, Ben, Jamie McCrimmon, and Zoe Heriot. His stories often had a darker and more action-oriented tone compared to the First Doctor's more historical focus.
His tenure ended in 1969 with the story "The War Games." He was put on trial by the Time Lords for interfering in the affairs of other planets and forced to regenerate. As punishment, he was exiled to Earth and forced to work for UNIT.
