Green Lantern is a superhero identity used by several characters in DC Comics, most notably Hal Jordan. A test pilot, Jordan was chosen by a dying alien Green Lantern, Abin Sur, to inherit his power ring. This ring grants the wearer incredible abilities, fueled by willpower, including flight, energy projection, and the creation of solid-light constructs.
The ring is powered by the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force operating across the universe. Each member is chosen for their ability to overcome great fear. They are stationed in sectors and must patrol them to maintain peace and order, answering to the Guardians of the Universe, who oversee the Corps from the planet Oa.

He has battled enemies such as Sinestro, a former Green Lantern who embraced fear, and Parallax, a fear entity that briefly possessed Jordan, corrupting him.
