Green Lantern is a DC Comics character, specifically referring to multiple individuals empowered by a Green Lantern power ring and membership in the intergalactic Green Lantern Corps. These rings grant the wielder incredible abilities fueled by willpower.
The first Green Lantern, Alan Scott, debuted in All-American Comics #16 (July 1940). However, the Green Lantern most widely recognized is Hal Jordan, introduced in Showcase #22 (October 1959). Jordan became the first human inducted into the Green Lantern Corps.
Besides Jordan, other notable Green Lanterns of Earth include John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner. Each Green Lantern patrols a sector of space and is responsible for maintaining peace and order. The Green Lantern Corps are controlled by the Guardians of the Universe from their homeworld of Oa.
