John Stewart is a prominent member of the Green Lantern Corps in DC Comics. An architect and former U.S. Marine, Stewart was chosen by the Guardians of the Universe as Hal Jordan's backup Green Lantern due to his strong will and sense of duty.

He first appeared in Green Lantern Vol. 2, #87 (December 1971). Initially reluctant to embrace the Green Lantern mantle, Stewart gradually became a dedicated and skilled member of the Corps.
