Jessica Cruz is a member of the Green Lantern Corps, a peacekeeping force in the DC Universe powered by willpower. Her first appearance in comics was in Green Lantern #20 (July 2013).
Unlike some other Green Lanterns, Jessica's path to wielding a power ring began with trauma. She was a survivor of a violent encounter that left her with debilitating anxiety and PTSD. This initially made her unsuitable for bearing a ring.
However, a Ring of Volthoom, corrupted by the entity known as Power Ring, chose her. This ring drew power from fear and controlled her, making her a threat. Eventually, she was able to overcome its influence with the help of other heroes.
After freeing herself from the corrupted ring, Jessica was chosen by a Green Lantern ring. Her strong will and determination made her worthy, proving that even those with inner demons can become powerful protectors. She became a true Green Lantern and protector of her sector.
