Alan Scott, also known as the Golden Age Green Lantern, is a DC Comics superhero. He first appeared in *All-American Comics* #16 (July 1940).
Unlike later Green Lanterns associated with the Lantern Corps, Alan Scott's powers derive from the Starheart, a mystical entity composed of magic. A sentient emerald meteor, it fell to Earth millennia ago. He fashioned a ring from a piece of the meteor, which granted him abilities like flight, energy projection, and the creation of solid light constructs.
The Golden Age Green Lantern's powers are notably weaker against wood, an unusual vulnerability dictated by the Starheart's nature.
Later interpretations and retcons connect Alan Scott to the concept of a "Green Flame" of life itself, further distinguishing him from the Green Lantern Corps and their power rings fueled by willpower. He's also been portrayed as a founding member of the Justice Society of America.
