The original champion of the Wizard, Black Adam's disdain for morality and hunger for power were punished with eternal imprisonment within the tomb of Ramesses II. Following his escape, he usurped the throne of Kahndaq by force, and has become one of the most powerful enemies of Billy Batson, the superhero known as Shazam.

Black Adam, as portrayed in the 2022 film Black Adam, is a powerful antihero from Kahndaq. Originally named Teth-Adam, he was chosen thousands of years ago by the Council of Wizards to receive the powers of Shazam.

Adam's immense abilities stem from ancient gods: Shu grants him stamina, Heru gives him speed, Amon provides strength, Zehuti bestows wisdom, Aton gifts power, and Mehen offers courage. He used these powers to liberate Kahndaq from a tyrannical king, but his methods were brutal, leading to his imprisonment for 5,000 years.

Upon his reawakening, Adam finds Kahndaq under threat once more. While initially prioritizing his people, his willingness to use lethal force puts him at odds with the Justice Society and forces him to confront his own methods and how he will use his formidable powers.
