Green Lantern, specifically Hal Jordan in the New 52 continuity, is a fictional superhero published by DC Comics. Prior to the New 52 relaunch, Jordan was a venerated member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force powered by willpower.
The New 52 initially presented a different status quo. Jordan was controversially stripped of his Green Lantern ring and discharged from the Corps due to actions he took while possessed by the fear entity, Parallax, in prior continuity. He was reinstated later, albeit with lingering doubts about his suitability.
As a test pilot before joining the Corps, Jordan possesses immense courage and a strong will, making him an ideal wielder of the Green Lantern power ring.
