John Stewart is a prominent member of the Green Lantern Corps in DC Comics. He first appeared in Green Lantern Vol. 2, #87 (December 1971) as a backup choice for Hal Jordan's Green Lantern duties.
An architect and former United States Marine, Stewart was initially chosen by the Guardians of the Universe as Hal Jordan's alternate because of his strong sense of duty and discipline. While initially reluctant and at times abrasive, Stewart ultimately embraced his role as a Green Lantern, becoming one of the most respected and skilled members of the Corps.
Beyond his duties as a Green Lantern, Stewart is known for his architectural skills, often using his power ring to create complex structures and designs. He's also recognized for his serious and often stoic demeanor, a contrast to some of his more lighthearted Green Lantern counterparts.
