The Silver Surfer is a Marvel Comics character whose first appearance was in Fantastic Four #48 (March 1966).
Originally named Norrin Radd, he was an astronomer from the planet Zenn-La. To save his homeworld from Galactus, a cosmic entity who consumes planets, Norrin Radd agreed to become Galactus' herald, seeking out planets for him to devour.
Galactus imbued Norrin Radd with the Power Cosmic, transforming him into the Silver Surfer. His skin became metallic silver, and he was granted a surfboard-like craft that allowed him to travel through space at incredible speeds.
Over time, the Surfer developed a conscience and rebelled against Galactus, ultimately becoming a protector of Earth and other worlds. He is known for his nobility and his struggles with the ethical implications of his past actions.
