James Rhodes, also known as War Machine, is a Marvel Comics character who debuted as a supporting character for Iron Man before becoming a hero in his own right.

Rhodes' first appearance as War Machine was in Iron Man #284 (May 1992). After Tony Stark was injured, he entrusted Rhodes with the Iron Man armor. Rhodes proved to be a capable hero, leading to the development of his own unique suit - the War Machine armor (Iron Man Model 11), a heavily armed and armored battlesuit.

War Machine is characterized by his extensive weaponry and military background. Unlike Iron Man's focus on technological innovation, War Machine is a straightforward combatant, relying on brute force and firepower.
