Billy Batson, in the New 52 era of DC Comics, is a troubled teenager chosen by the wizard Shazam to be his champion. He first appeared as Shazam in *Justice League* Vol. 1 #7 (2012) as part of DC's line-wide relaunch.
Initially distrustful and cynical due to his difficult foster care past, Billy gradually learns the importance of family and responsibility. By speaking the wizard's name, "Shazam!", Billy transforms into a powerful superhero.
As Shazam, he possesses superhuman strength, speed, flight, and the ability to manipulate lightning. Unlike previous versions, Billy isn't as immediately heroic upon receiving his powers, but over time embraces his role and becomes a protector, fighting alongside the Justice League and defending those in need.
