Shazam, originally known as Captain Marvel, is a superhero from DC Comics. Created by writer Bill Parker and artist C. C. Beck, he first appeared in *Whiz Comics* #2 (February 1940).
The character's alter ego is Billy Batson, a young boy who, by speaking the magic word "Shazam!", is transformed into a powerful adult superhero. The word is an acronym for six immortal elders: Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, each granting Billy aspects of their powers.
Captain Marvel's powers include super strength, speed, flight, invulnerability, and wisdom. Though similar to Superman, his childlike innocence and sense of fun set him apart.
Due to trademark issues, DC later rebranded the character as Shazam. However, the core concept of a child transforming into a superhero through magic remains central to the character's appeal.
