Billy Batson, also known as Shazam, debuted in Justice League #0 (2012) as part of DC's New 52 relaunch. He is a troubled foster child chosen by the wizard Shazam to be his champion.
When Billy speaks the word "Shazam!", he is transformed into a powerful adult superhero with abilities derived from six mythological figures: Solomon (wisdom), Hercules (strength), Atlas (stamina), Zeus (power), Achilles (courage), and Mercury (speed).
Initially cynical and self-serving, Billy gradually learns the importance of family and responsibility through his relationships with his foster siblings. He uses his powers to protect them and the city of Philadelphia, becoming a true hero.
