Shazam, originally known as Captain Marvel, is a superhero from DC Comics. Created by writer Bill Parker and artist C. C. Beck, he first appeared in *Whiz Comics* #2 (February 1940), published by Fawcett Comics. The character was later acquired by DC Comics.
Shazam is the alter ego of Billy Batson, a young boy who, by speaking the magic word "Shazam!", transforms into a powerful adult superhero. The word is an acronym representing six immortal elders who grant Billy his powers: Solomon (wisdom), Hercules (strength), Atlas (stamina), Zeus (power), Achilles (courage), and Mercury (speed).
