Shazam, portrayed by Zachary Levi in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is the superhero identity of Billy Batson, a troubled but good-hearted teenager. Billy is orphaned at a young age after being separated from his mother at a carnival.
He bounces between foster homes until, through mysterious circumstances, he's summoned to the Rock of Eternity by the ancient wizard Shazam. The wizard, weary and near death, deems Billy worthy and bestows upon him the power of the gods.
By uttering the wizard's name, "Shazam!", Billy transforms into a powerful adult superhero. The transformation grants him superhuman strength, speed, flight, invulnerability, and the ability to project lightning.
Initially overwhelmed and childish with his newfound abilities, Billy learns to embrace his responsibility as a hero with the help of his foster siblings. He confronts villains, most notably Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, who also seeks the wizard's power. He is now part of the Shazam Family.
