Thanos is a powerful supervillain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He is portrayed as a genocidal warlord from the ruined planet Titan. His primary motivation is to bring balance to the universe by eliminating half of all life, believing that overpopulation inevitably leads to resource depletion and suffering.
In the MCU, Thanos's first on-screen appearance was a brief cameo in the post-credits scene of *The Avengers* (2012).
