James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier and later White Wolf, is a central figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Originally Steve Rogers' childhood best friend, Bucky enlisted and fought alongside Captain America during World War II. He seemingly perished during a mission, falling from a train in the Alps. However, he was recovered and brainwashed by HYDRA, equipped with a cybernetic arm, and transformed into the Winter Soldier, a deadly assassin.
For decades, the Winter Soldier carried out HYDRA's missions, his memory suppressed and his personality erased. He was awakened when he recognized his friend Steve Rogers.
Bucky began his long road to recovery, struggling with his past actions and regaining his sense of self. In "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (2014), we see him for the first time as Winter Soldier on screen. He later sought refuge in Wakanda, where he was given the moniker White Wolf and received additional support to control his trauma.
