James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, known as the Winter Soldier, is a prominent figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He first appeared as the Winter Soldier in the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Initially Captain America's childhood friend and ally during World War II, Bucky was presumed dead after a fall from a train during a mission. However, he was recovered by HYDRA, who brainwashed and augmented him, turning him into a deadly assassin known as the Winter Soldier. He was responsible for numerous assassinations and acts of sabotage over decades.
As the Winter Soldier, Bucky possessed enhanced strength, agility, and reflexes. He also wielded a vibranium prosthetic arm, further increasing his combat capabilities. His mind control was eventually broken, and he began a path toward redemption, grappling with the memories of his past actions. After being pardoned he becomes a key figure during global events.
