The Winter Soldier, a key member of the Thunderbolts, is the alias of James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes. Originally Captain America's World War II sidekick, Bucky was presumed dead during a mission. However, he was recovered and brainwashed by the Soviet Union's Department X.
