Marc Spector, known as Moon Knight, is a complex Marvel character adapted for television. First appearing in Werewolf by Night #32 (1975) in the comics, the television adaptation presents a distinct, albeit related, interpretation.
In the television series, Spector is an American mercenary with dissociative identity disorder (DID). His alters include Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift shop employee, and Jake Lockley, a rugged chauffeur. These identities are largely unaware of each other.
Spector's past is shrouded in trauma, contributing to his condition. He became the avatar of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. In exchange for serving Khonshu's will, Spector was resurrected and granted superhuman abilities tied to the lunar cycle. He uses these abilities to fight evil, often blurring the lines between hero and vigilante. The show explores the challenges Spector faces dealing with DID while fulfilling his duties as Moon Knight.
