Jason Voorhees is a central figure in the slasher Horror film franchise, Friday the 13th. Though technically absent as the killer, he first appears in Friday the 13th (1980), primarily through flashbacks and visions of his mother's grief.
He properly debuts as the adult killer in Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981), seeking vengeance for his mother's murder. Drowning in Camp Crystal Lake as a child, his apparent death is the catalyst for the franchise's bloody events.
Jason is typically depicted as a silent, hulking figure, often wearing a hockey mask, which became his signature look in Friday the 13th Part III (1982). He is virtually unkillable, repeatedly returning from seemingly fatal wounds. His motivations are typically tied to protecting "his" woods, Camp Crystal Lake, from trespassers.
