Pietro Maximoff, also known as Quicksilver, is a Marvel Comics character best recognized for his superhuman speed.
He is the son of the mutant Magneto and twin brother of Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, though their parentage has been retconned multiple times. Initially believing himself to be a victim of experimentation, he, along with his sister, joined Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Later, recognizing the error of their ways, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch defected and joined the Avengers, becoming valuable and longstanding members of the team. Pietro's powers allow him to move and think at incredible speeds, granting him superhuman reflexes, agility, and the ability to create cyclones.
Throughout his publication history, Quicksilver's characterization has varied, sometimes portrayed as arrogant and impetuous, but ultimately dedicated to protecting the innocent and fighting for justice. He's been associated with various teams, including X-Factor, and frequently deals with issues of identity and family. He has also been married to Crystal of the Inhumans and had a daughter with her named Luna.
