Pietro Maximoff, best known as Quicksilver, is a Marvel Comics character possessing superhuman speed.
He first appeared in *The X-Men* #4 (March 1964) alongside his twin sister, Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch). They were introduced as members of Magneto's Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Quicksilver's primary ability is to move and think at superhuman speeds. This allows him to perform tasks at incredible rates, run faster than the speed of sound, and even vibrate his molecules to phase through solid objects in some portrayals.
Initially a villain, Quicksilver eventually defected from the Brotherhood and joined the X-Men before becoming a core member of the Avengers.
