The Batman Who Laughs is a villainous version of Batman originating from Earth-22 within the DC Comics multiverse. He first appeared in the Dark Nights: Metal storyline.
This character is the result of Batman being exposed to a concentrated version of the Joker toxin upon the Joker's death. This exposure corrupts Batman, combining his strategic intellect and physical prowess with the Joker's homicidal madness and nihilistic worldview. In effect the merging of Batman/The Joker.
He is recruited by the entity Barbatos as one of the Dark Knights, a group of evil Batmen from across the multiverse sent to invade and corrupt the prime Earth (Earth-0). The Batman Who Laughs represents Batman's worst fears realized – a hero who has abandoned all morality and embraced absolute chaos.
