Atrocitus is a powerful supervillain and anti-hero in the DC Comics universe, primarily associated with the Green Lantern mythology. Born Atros on the planet Ryut, in Sector 666, he witnessed the brutal massacre of his people by the Manhunters, robotic precursors to the Green Lantern Corps.
Consumed by rage and fueled by the emotional spectrum's red light, Atros forged the Red Lantern Corps. He wields a Red Lantern power ring, fueled by intense anger and hatred, which replaces his heart and continually projects corrosive, napalm-like plasma.
Atrocitus seeks vengeance against the Guardians of the Universe, whom he holds responsible for the Manhunters' programming flaw. He is a master strategist and a formidable opponent, often at odds with both heroes and villains alike. His primary goal is to punish the guilty and inflict suffering upon those he believes deserve it, driven by the immense pain and loss he has endured.
In recent years, Atrocitus has explored a path of somewhat reluctant heroism, attempting to control his rage and use his powers for more focused justice, though his methods remain extreme and controversial. He is a complex character, driven by profound trauma and a burning desire for retribution.
