Drax the Destroyer, as portrayed in the Guardians of the Galaxy films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is a pivotal member of the team. His first appearance was in the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy.
Originally, Drax was a human named Arthur Douglas whose family was killed by Ronan the Accuser on Thanos' orders. To combat Thanos, his spirit was placed into a powerful alien body, transforming him into Drax. He is characterized by his incredibly literal nature, lack of understanding of metaphors, and exceptional fighting skills.
Fueled by a desire for revenge against Thanos for the murder of his family, Drax joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, becoming a loyal and often humorous companion to Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot. Throughout the series, he softens somewhat, forming unexpected bonds with his teammates and finding a new purpose beyond vengeance.
