Originally Arthur Douglas, his family was attacked and killed by Thanos. To combat this threat, his spirit was placed into a powerful artificial body, creating Drax the Destroyer.
His primary motivation is seeking vengeance against Thanos for the murder of his family. He is often portrayed as incredibly strong and durable, but lacking in subtlety or complex thought. He is a key member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
