Sun Wukong possesses many abilities. He has amazing strength and is able to support the weight of two heaven mountains on his shoulders while running "with the speed of a meteor". He is extremely fast, able to travel 108,000 li (54,000 km, 34,000 mi) in one somersault. Sun Wukong also acquires the 72 Earthly Transformations, which allow him to access 72 unique powers, including the ability to transform into sundry animals and objects. He is a skilled fighter, capable of defeating the best warriors of heaven. His hair has magical properties, capable of making copies of himself or transforming into various weapons, animals and other things. He also shows partial weather manipulation skills and can stop people in place with fixing magic.

Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is the central protagonist in the classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West. Born from a stone egg atop Flower Fruit Mountain, he gains sentience and quickly distinguishes himself through his intelligence and courage.

Seeking immortality, Sun Wukong journeys to learn the Taoist arts, acquiring immense strength, the ability to transform into 72 different forms, and mastery of cloud traversal. He also obtains the magical staff, Ruyi Jingu Bang, from the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea.

His rebellious nature and immense power lead him to challenge the Jade Emperor and the celestial hierarchy, earning him the title of "Great Sage Equal to Heaven." After causing chaos in Heaven, he is eventually subdued by the Buddha and imprisoned under a mountain for 500 years.

Sun Wukong is freed by the Tang monk Xuanzang (Tripitaka) and becomes his disciple, tasked with protecting him on his pilgrimage to retrieve Buddhist scriptures from the West. Throughout the journey, he battles demons and overcomes numerous obstacles, ultimately achieving enlightenment and becoming a Buddha himself.
