Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is a central character in the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. Born from a stone egg atop Flower Fruit Mountain, he quickly distinguishes himself with his intelligence and ambition.
Seeking immortality, Sun Wukong masters magic, martial arts, and shapeshifting, eventually acquiring the powerful Ruyi Jingu Bang (a magical staff) and a host of other abilities. His arrogance leads to rebellion against Heaven, resulting in imprisonment under a mountain by the Buddha.
After repenting he is later freed by the monk Tang Sanzang, whom he agrees to protect on a pilgrimage to retrieve Buddhist scriptures from the West. Throughout the journey, Sun Wukong battles demons and monsters, using his skills and wit to overcome challenges and safeguard his master. He becomes a symbol of strength, trickery, and ultimately, redemption.
