Benjamin "Ben" Grimm, also known as the Thing, is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics. He is a founding member of the Fantastic Four.
Originally a skilled pilot and astronaut, Ben underwent a radical transformation when exposed to cosmic rays during an unauthorized space mission. This exposure mutated his body, granting him superhuman strength, durability, and a rocky, orange hide.
While possessing immense power, Ben is tormented by his monstrous appearance and yearns for his former human life. Despite this, he remains a steadfast hero, dedicating himself to protecting others and using his abilities for the greater good.
In later storylines, particularly within the Future Foundation, the Thing's role expands to encompass mentorship and guidance for younger heroes. He also experiments with managing his rocky appearance and his desire to be human again.
