Biography:
Gollum, a character from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth writings, is a tragic figure corrupted by the One Ring. Originally a Stoor Hobbit named Sméagol, he murdered his cousin Déagol to possess the Ring in approximately TA 2463.
His first appearance is in the novel *The Hobbit*, where he is encountered by Bilbo Baggins in the Misty Mountains. Prolonged exposure to the Ring twisted his body and mind, leading to his transformation into the creature known as Gollum. He is gaunt, with pale skin and large, luminous eyes.
Driven by an insatiable desire for the Ring, which he calls "my precious," Gollum is a key player in *The Lord of the Rings*. He guides Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee through Mordor, but his treachery constantly threatens their quest to destroy the Ring. Ultimately, he plays an integral, if unintentional, role in the Ring's destruction at Mount Doom.
