Biography:
Gollum, originally known as Sméagol, is a creature from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth writings, most notably The Lord of the Rings. He first appears in The Hobbit as a mysterious, slimy being living deep within the Misty Mountains.
Sméagol was once a Stoor Hobbit, a river-folk Hobbit, who discovered the One Ring on the banks of the Anduin River after it was lost by Isildur. The Ring corrupted him, both physically and mentally, extending his life far beyond normal and twisting him into the wretched creature known as Gollum.
Driven mad by the Ring's power and his own greed, Gollum murdered his cousin Déagol for it and fled into the mountains. Over centuries, he became utterly consumed by the Ring, referring to it as "my precious." His life revolves around its possession and the torment of its loss, becoming a shadow of his former self.
