Biography:
Wade Wilson, known as Deadpool, is a mercenary anti-hero from the Marvel Comics universe, primarily portrayed in the 2016 film Deadpool and its subsequent sequel.
Prior to becoming Deadpool, Wilson was a Special Forces operative turned mercenary who received a terminal cancer diagnosis. Desperate, he underwent an experimental procedure offered by Ajax, designed to activate dormant mutant genes. The procedure cured his cancer, but left him severely scarred and disfigured.
The experiment also granted Wilson accelerated healing abilities, essentially making him immortal. He adopts the persona of Deadpool, clad in a red and black suit to hide the blood of his enemies. Deadpool is characterized by his irreverent humor, frequent breaking of the fourth wall, and awareness of being a fictional character.
While his film origin is unique, the character Deadpool first appeared in comics in The New Mutants #98 (February 1991).
