Jay Garrick, in the New 52 continuity of DC Comics, is the Golden Age Flash reimagined for a new era. Initially existing on Earth-2, a parallel world to the main DC Earth, he is a young, energetic speedster with a unique origin.
Unlike his pre-New 52 counterpart who gained his powers through hard water, this version's abilities stem from a god-like being called Mercurius. Mercurius granted him super-speed, but also burdened him with the need to maintain Mercurius's own fading power on Earth-2. His iconic helmet, originally his father's World War I helmet, remains a defining feature, symbolizing hope and protection.
When Earth-2 is threatened by Apokoliptian forces led by Darkseid, Jay Garrick, alongside other heroes like Alan Scott (Green Lantern) and Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl), forms part of the Wonders of Earth-2. Their goal is to protect their world from annihilation. The New 52 version of Jay Garrick brings a fresh interpretation to the classic speedster while retaining core elements of his heroic persona.
