Two-Face is a complex character from DC Comics originally appearing in Detective Comics #66 (August 1942) in the original comic books. He is known as a former Gotham City District Attorney named Harvey Dent.
Dent was once an ally of Batman and Commissioner Gordon, working to fight crime. However, after a mob boss threw acid in his face during a trial, Dent was left horribly disfigured on one side of his face. This trauma, combined with pre-existing mental health issues, fractured his psyche.
He became the criminal Two-Face, making decisions based on the flip of a two-sided coin, one side scarred and the other untouched. This reflected his duality, with the coin representing his internal struggle between good and evil.
