The Hobgoblin is a Marvel Comics supervillain primarily associated with Spider-Man. Although several individuals have adopted the mantle, Roderick Kingsley is most often attributed with being the original Hobgoblin.
Roderick Kingsley was a wealthy fashion designer and businessman who sought more power. He stumbled upon one of Green Goblin's secret hideouts and modified the Goblin formula, creating his own enhanced strength, speed, and intellect. He then created the Hobgoblin persona.
The character first appeared in *The Amazing Spider-Man* #238 (March 1983). Hobgoblin's true identity was a mystery for several years in the comics, adding to his menacing presence. He typically used a Goblin Glider and pumpkin bombs, modified from the Green Goblin's arsenal.
