Anakin Skywalker is a central character in the Star Wars saga, first appearing in *Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace* (1999) as a young slave on Tatooine.
Discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, Anakin is believed to be the "Chosen One" prophesied to bring balance to the Force due to his extraordinarily high midi-chlorian count. He begins Jedi training but is deemed too old by the Jedi Council and has trouble containing his emotions. He becomes Padawan to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Throughout the *Star Wars: Clone Wars* animated series and *Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones*, Anakin matures as a Jedi Knight, though he remains impulsive and prone to anger. He develops a forbidden love with Padmé Amidala, whom he secretly marries. His inner conflict and fear of loss lead him down a dark path. In *Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith*, manipulated by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Darth Sidious), Anakin succumbs to the dark side of the Force, becoming Darth Vader.
