Kamen Rider, also known as Masked Rider or Masker Rider in some regions, is the titular character of the long-running Japanese tokusatsu franchise, *Kamen Rider*. The franchise began with the original *Kamen Rider* TV show in 1971.
The original Kamen Rider, Hongo Takeshi, is a biochemist kidnapped and surgically altered by the evil organization Shocker to become a cyborg soldier. However, before the brainwashing process is complete, he escapes and uses his newfound powers to fight against Shocker and protect humanity. He is a Kamen Warrior of Justice.
