Biography:
Supergirl, specifically the Matrix version, is a complex and unique character within the DC Comics universe. She debuted in 1988 following the Crisis on Infinite Earths event.
Unlike the traditional Kara Zor-El, Matrix originated from a pocket universe created by a benevolent Lex Luthor. She was an artificial lifeform, a protoplasmic matrix capable of shapeshifting and possessing incredible power.
Sent to the main DC Universe, Matrix initially struggled with her identity. She bonded with Lex Luthor (of the main universe, portrayed as a villain) and even temporarily adopted his likeness.
Eventually, Matrix merged with a dying Linda Danvers, a human girl, creating a new Supergirl identity. This Supergirl retained Matrix's shapeshifting abilities and gained additional powers. She served as Supergirl for several years, grappling with her dual nature and fighting alongside Superman and other heroes.
The Matrix/Linda Danvers Supergirl's history is convoluted and retconned throughout DC's various continuity changes, but she remains a significant and memorable iteration of the Supergirl mantle, distinguished by her artificial origins and shapeshifting powers.
