Luke Cage is a Marvel Comics character who first appeared in Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 (June 1972). Carl Lucas was wrongly convicted of a crime and volunteered for an experimental procedure to reduce his prison sentence.
During the experiment, he was sabotaged, resulting in enhanced strength, stamina, and near-impenetrable skin. He escaped prison and adopted the name Luke Cage, becoming a hero for hire, using his abilities for profit.
In modern comics, Cage has evolved beyond simply a hero for hire. He became a core member of the New Avengers and even led the team for a time. He married Jessica Jones and they had a daughter named Danielle, becoming a dedicated family man while still working to protect his community.
