Hunter Zolomon, portrayed as Jay Garrick/Zoom in The CW's Arrowverse, is a complex and tragic figure. He originates from Earth-2 where he witnessed his father murder his mother before his father was subsequently killed. This trauma profoundly shaped his psyche.
After the Earth-2 particle accelerator explosion, Zolomon gained super-speed, but unlike The Flash, his powers were derived from cellular decay, causing him immense pain and requiring a serum, Velocity, to temporarily suppress the degeneration. He used this power to operate as Zoom, terrorizing Central City on Earth-2 under the guise of a hero to instill false hope.
Crossing over to Earth-1, he initially posed as Jay Garrick, the Flash of Earth-2, attempting to gain Team Flash's trust and steal Barry Allen's speed. His true identity and malevolent intentions were eventually revealed, culminating in a battle where he was defeated and taken by Time Wraiths. These Wraiths transformed him into the Black Flash, a being tasked with hunting down speedsters who tamper with the timeline.
