Luke Skywalker, appearing in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), is a pivotal character in the Star Wars saga. In Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Episode 8), he is portrayed as a disillusioned and hermit-like figure living on the remote island of Ahch-To.
Haunted by his past failures in training Kylo Ren, Skywalker has severed himself from the Force and abandoned his friends and family. He refuses to train Rey, initially resistant to her pleas to rejoin the fight against the First Order.
Throughout the film, Rey's persistence and encounters with the Force ghost of Yoda help him to confront his mistakes. Ultimately, Skywalker projects himself across the galaxy to confront Kylo Ren, providing the Resistance with a crucial distraction to escape. This act of immense Force projection ultimately leads to his death, but cements his status as a legend and reignites hope in the galaxy.
