Future Trunks is a pivotal character in the Dragon Ball saga, hailing from an alternate, dystopian future timeline.
He is the son of Vegeta and Bulma, though he was raised without ever knowing his father due to Vegeta's death at the hands of Androids 17 and 18 in his timeline. These androids devastated Earth, leaving Trunks and a weakened Gohan (his mentor and friend) to fight against them.
Following Gohan's death, Trunks trained intensely to become a Super Saiyan and defeat the androids. Eventually, he uses a time machine created by his mother to travel to the past, seeking a way to avert the androids' destruction in his own timeline.
In the past, he aids Goku and the Z Fighters in their battles, becoming a key ally. After the defeat of the Androids and Cell in the main timeline, Future Trunks returns to his own time, empowered by his experiences, and successfully defeats Androids 17 and 18 and ultimately Cell, restoring peace to his ravaged world.
