Trunks is a significant character in the Dragon Ball franchise, primarily known for his time-traveling abilities and Saiyan heritage. He exists in two primary timelines: Future Trunks and Kid Trunks.
Future Trunks hails from a bleak alternate future where the Androids 17 and 18 have decimated Earth's population. He travels to the past to seek assistance from Goku and the Z Fighters in defeating the Androids and saving his timeline. He is the son of Vegeta and Bulma in his timeline, though the relationship is strained due to Vegeta's death in his timeline.
Kid Trunks, appearing in the main Dragon Ball timeline, is also the son of Vegeta and Bulma, but exists in a world where the Androids were defeated, and life is generally more peaceful. He is close in age and a rival to Goten, Goku's youngest son. The two often train together, eventually learning the Fusion technique, allowing them to merge into the powerful warrior Gotenks.
Both versions of Trunks possess incredible Saiyan power, inherited from Vegeta. Future Trunks is known for his calm, determined demeanor and mastery of sword fighting, while Kid Trunks embodies a more playful, carefree attitude common in Saiyans.
